Google Docs Presentation

Google Docs is an attachment of the Google Drive software that allows you to share your work with other people through an account using your email. It allows you to work on the same project at the same time as someone else on another computer. This is a great way to share work when completing a project with a partner or a group of people. Google Docs is a great tool in school and most students use it as a “USB Drive’’ by saving work onto their Google Docs account from school and then being able to work on it at home. Google Docs created its presentation program on September 17, 2007. I am very familiar with the presentation tool that Google Docs produced. Although it may not have the same effects and simple software of Microsoft, the presentation format is an excellent way to show a presentation and it allows people on different computer to work on it at the same time.

Many businesses are attracted to Google Docs due to their terrific multi-computer use and it’s free of charge. Most presentations completed in the work force are worked on by more than one person and Google Docs allows you to work on a project with multiple team members very easily. A company that is used all around the world can benefit from the use of Google Docs as well due to their language adapter mode. This allows a user to write a whole presentation in any language and be able to change it to any other language. This allows businesses to communicate with each other more easily. Google Docs Presentation is a great tool in the business world.

In my opinion, Google Docs is the best socially equipped presentation software in the world. Up to 8-9 people can work on one project at once. This has never been done before. This allows people to work more efficiently together. Google Docs Presentation also established a chat session on the side on your presentation in which you can communicate with other people that are working on the same project as you. This also allows for more efficient work between work members.

One bad aspect of Google Docs Presentation is the difficultly in adding effects to your presentation. One key aspect to a solid presentation is the ability to keep your audience involved and motion effects are one way to do this. In my experience with Google Docs presentation, they lack a variety of effects and I felt like my presentation was boring. They had very few entrance and exit effects compared to the multifold of choices that Microsoft PowerPoint supplies. This could be a reason why most people in the business world use Microsoft PowerPoint to create presentations.  Microsoft PowerPoint is actually a lot easier to use too. Google Docs seems to freeze a lot when working at the same time as someone else and this can easily frustrate a user. I’ve experienced this when writing an essay with my partner. We tried to work on it at the same time but it froze very often and it was very hard to write and get your thoughts across while it keeps freezing.

Overall, I personally think Google Docs Presentation is a great tool for any student or business owner. It’s a great way to work together with other people and it allows for an easier and more efficient way of completing work.

Facebook

                Facebook was arguably the first social media network to really capture the whole world. Some people would say MySpace completed this goal but Facebook has done it on a much larger scale. Facebook is known all around the world and attracts people from ages of 8-75. This large scale of users enables Facebook to be the most successful social media network in the world today.

                Facebook was created in February of 2004 by a man named Mark Zuckerburg who received help from Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCulloh, and Chris Hughes. His original intent was to enable people within Harvard University to connect with each other and create an environment where everyone knew each other. Other colleges became interested in it and adopted “the facebook” into their college stream as well. When it first opened at Harvard, it had about 1200 users within the first week. Today, Facebook has about 1.3 billion users to create revenue of 6.1 billion in 2013.

A big part of the Facebook users have a business page, including my dad. My dad works for State Farm Insurance and he has a business page that tells customers about his business information such as office hours, sales prices, and possible discounts. My dad’s customers can follow his Facebook page and look up or contact him if they need some information. A lot of businesses have Facebook pages. You could walk into any store on Long Island and find a sign by the front door that says “Like Us on Facebook”. Owners do this to expand their business to new customers. Facebook is a create way to hype up your business to new customers and gives your previous customers more information about your company. 

The biggest part of Facebook is the social aspect. People can share pictures, tag their friends, comment on a status, or like a post. This ability to interact with so many people in so many ways is one reason why Facebook has become such a huge success. This is a great way to interact with people all around the globe. A disadvantage to this social network is the dramatic increase in cyber bulling. This is a horrible threat that needs to be stop. Since there are over a billion users, it’s hard to control those you are deciding to use Facebook in a demeaning matter.

Facebook is a great way for entertainment such as movies or sporting events to make a name for themselves. People can ‘‘like’’ a movie review page that gives in depth reviews to all of the movies that are playing in the theaters. One example of a sporting event that used Facebook to increase the amount of fans was a minor league team. A minor league team set up a “Deport Justin Beiber” night game for the fans and this was really made popular by Facebook. People saw it on the minor league’s team page and were able to make it a very popular event.  Facebook is a great way to spread entertainment on the web.

Just like Twitter, Facebook is a very fast and efficient way to find out news. They will always have quick updates about breaking news that is happening around the globe. However, there is a down side to this. Facebook has been known to help create fake reports that can throw people off. For example, I was reading an article on Facebook about how John Travolta had died and I went to look it up on Google and there were no reports of him being dead. Facebook can give you the fastest way to breaking news, but you always have to double check to see if it’s correct.

For myself, I use Facebook a lot for recreational purposes. You can make private groups with your friends to set up a date where you can go to the park and play some hoops. There is also a wide range of computer games you can play while on Facebook. This gets the user to stay on the Facebook page longer, which is important to Facebook. People can interact with each other and make plans and they can also play against each other in the computer games. I think Facebook is a great way to have fun on the internet.

Facebook has really turned into a global icon. Everyone knows what it is and it has really changed the way people interact with each other. This is a great tool if you use it properly. It can connect you to old friends and help you develop new friendships. Facebook is definitely one of the best social networks to ever be created.

Twitter

                                                                                                               

                In today’s world, Twitter is one of, if not, the most used social network in society today. Twitter is used in several different ways. Twitter can be used to rapidly spread breaking news or hear an interview from your favorite football player. Twitter is used all around the world and has really changed society. Twitter was created in March of 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, Biz Stone, and Noah Glass. By 2012, there were 500 million users and they averaged 340 million tweets per day. Today, there are about 676 million users and they average about 135,000 new users every day. Twitter has exploded into something the creators could have never imagined and is now used in everyday life.

                One way that Twitter makes money is through advertisements. Companies pay large amounts of money to get their name out on Twitter. Businesses, in general, use Twitter a lot to attract attention of possible customers. A great thing about Twitter is that it allows you to make your own Twitter account just for your own business. This allows you to set up info such as location and prices for your product for any possible customer to see. Twitter is a great way to get your new business name out to the public.

                Twitter’s main purpose when it was created was to enable people to interact with each other. On Twitter, you can see a popular celebrity such as Lebron James tweet at a teenager who goes to Smithtown East. Twitter has really blown up the social network. Anyone can communicate with anyone if they please. This is a great thing about Twitter. There are also some negatives about the social set up of Twitter. Although there is the ability to block someone, there is a lot of cyber bullying on Twitter, even to famous celebrities. One example of that is when J.R. Smith had a horrible playoff series last year, thousands of people harassed him on Twitter. This is one bad aspect of the social network.

                In my opinion, Twitter is a great source of fun. Many teens complain that they can no longer complete their homework because they are too busy looking at their Twitter. On twitter, you can watch videos, tweet at your favorite celebrity and be waiting all night for a response, or even get movie reviews from your favorite critic. Although Twitter can become highly addictive and can ruin many homework grades for teens, it’s a great source of entertainment.

                One of the biggest aspects of Twitter is the ability to spread news with the click of a button. Twitter has a tool called the “retweet”. This enables users to make someone’s tweet their own and show their followers that original tweet. This makes news spread rapidly. Back in the early 1900’s, it would take weeks for news to make it around the country. Now, thanks to Twitter, news is spread across the globe in a matter of seconds. One example of that is the Boston bombing that happened last year. I found out about it through Twitter and got a lot of info about it through a news Twitter account. Twitter is the fastest and best way to find out about news.

                In entertainment, Twitter is used to examine movies, get a background about a new novel, or see a play write up. One example of this is when I was interested in seeing Anchorman 2. I wanted to know what people thought about it so I went to Twitter and typed in “Anchorman 2” reviews. I was flooded with positive results and I saw the movie and loved it. This is a great example of how twitter can be used in entertainment.
